The Cowal Way

The Cowal Way is one of the Scottish fantastic long distance trail crosses the Cowal Peninsula from south-west to north-east, beginning at Portavadie to Inveruglas. The 57ml/92km footbath through some of the most beautiful and landscape in Scotland. The trail across forestry tracks, hillsides, shorelines and lochs. The Cowal Way site http://www.cowalway.co.uk/ provide great information also Cowal Way with Isle of Bute by Michael Kaufmann and Jame Mclucki very handy and informative to have it during the trip.

The Cowal Way is quiet compared by the West Highland Way you can walk for hours without meeting anyone. The path is very well waymarked and there are nice places for wild-camping.. You pass villages were you can buy things and refill your supplies. I think the most challenging part is just after Lochgoihead to carin it is quite uphill and tough especially if you have a heavy rucksack on your back. In places were the path is less clear the white markers are helpful to locate your direction. After Strachur on the way to Lettermay there are some very boggy sections were you might have to go off the path sometimes through the worst parts. If you looking for a quiet long distance walk with beautiful surrounding then We would definitely recommend The Cowal Way.
